When I was a teenager growing up in Milwaukee and first heard the term graphic design described simply as “visual communication”, I fell in love with the concept and vowed this would be my major, okay call it my passion, when I went off to college.
We own a 77-year-old home in the Milwaukee area. By we, I mean myself, my spouse, and our four children. When we first purchased the home five years ago, we knew it was a “fixer-upper”. But I, for one, had no idea what that meant in terms of time and money commitment. Live and learn!
When you purchase an insurance policy today, you are investing in and protecting your future. If you have a growing family, like I do, it becomes doubly important to make the best choice among the hundreds of firms out there that are vying for your business.

Touring the Miller Brewing Company and the Johnsonville Sausage plants are two of the reasons that people travel to Milwaukee. However, not many people are aware of the wonder of our areas retail and shopping destinations. From outlet malls to specialty shops to everything in between, there is something for everyone who comes here with a shopping spree in mind. There are multiple shopping options for both pleasure and purpose.
Today, many of the motels and/or hotels in the Milwaukee area are much more like event and convention centers than in the day when you quickly rented a room to get some sleep before striking out the next morning. The motels/hotels offer many of the amenities needed by corporations or even families as they plan their next big meeting or gathering.
I grew up here in Milwaukee and at the age of 16 purchased my first used car. At the age of 17 I got my first lesson in Automobile Repair 101. I was ripped off, and that’s putting it mildly, charged for replacing parts that weren’t broken and for more hours than it took to make the repairs. I found this out from my boyfriend, who had a friend that worked at the garage I had taken my car to, and I was furious. I didn’t know how to fight this situation, so I let it go.
A visit to the Milwaukee Public Library is a quiet way to start off a weekend where I am searching for some much needed relaxation. Even as a child, I found myself escaping to this place, spending time alone with my imagination and all the wonderful places it could bring me to as I read book after book.
Furniture making was one of the skills brought over by my Milwaukee ancestors when they came from Europe. Furniture was hand-crafted, designed by the person needing the piece, and often lasted a lifetime. I like to frequent furnishing stores that duplicate some of the fine workmanship we found over 100 years ago.
Most of us in this day and age will face the all important decision of choosing what kind of elder care we want for our loved ones residing here in Milwaukee! With our life spans increasing, more and more of us are caring for our aging or ailing parents and relatives. Selecting good elder care for these loved ones can be overwhelming.
Recently, I have been considering starting up my own “do-all” business here in Milwaukee. I mean that literally. I would “do-all” the errands and activities you don’t have time for or interest in. But first I wanted to look into purchasing probably the most expensive item I would need to start up. A van, probably used, that I could use to help me with grocery deliveries or other such tasks customers may hire me to do.
A city guide would not be complete without some information about the area and people it serves. Milwaukee civic & community resources have a lot to offer, including information on: business development, charities, churches of all faiths, city government, education at all levels, federal government, fire protection, law enforcement, libraries, news and publications of all varieties, parks and beaches, postal services, social services, state government, and all of your utility needs. First and foremost, if you’ve just moved to our area, the info about how to hook up service for water, power, phone, and TV, as well as knowing if you can access 9-1-1 for all of your emergency needs are a must.
Here’s what the start to my day used to look like, everyday. First, I would worry about the computers, needed to run my small business, going up and down all day long. Second, they would actually go down and my employees work would grind to a halt. Was this any way to run an online jewelry making business? I think not, in fact I know not!
When you see businesses in Milwaukee with names like Johnny Buffit’s Auto Emporium and Tender Care Auto Detailing you know that running the car over for a wash will look a bit different today than it did a few years back. There are generally three styles of car washes available. Locally we have:
* Self-service facilities that are coin operated
* In-bay automatics which have a big machine that rolls back and forth over your vehicle
* Tunnel Washes that use a conveyor to push/pull your vehicle through the car wash

So depending on whether you are a student, in the military, a senior looking for a quiet place to reside, or just the average Joe (or Jane) looking for an apartment with a few more amenities than you currently have, a little research will help you score big in this area.
The Milwaukee area is served by the third largest airport in Wisconsin. It is owned and operated by the county. The employees hired by the county, airlines, car rental agencies, parking lots, restaurants, and gift shops (to name a few) number in the thousands. They’re all there to serve your travel needs as you fly in and out of the city. We’re here to offer you the best information on airlines and flights, so that you can get to where you are going safely and quickly whether it’s for vacation, business, or a permanent relocation. Remember what it was like growing up here in Milwaukee when Mom or Dad told you it was time for a trip to the dentist? Oh yeah! There was a lot of complaining and even some kicking and screaming going on! Kids visiting a dentist for the first time today don’t share the same unhealthy fears many of us have about this particular profession. Many of the services and procedures they use today don’t compare at all to what I remember. Most of us, while growing up, didn’t have choices like nitrous oxide, heating pads, and even choices of music we’d like to listen to, making us more comfortable while being worked on. Some dentists today even use dental lasers as alternatives to dental tools such as the tooth drills and scalpels that I remember so well.
