We own a 77-year-old home in the Milwaukee area. By we, I mean myself, my spouse, and our four children. When we first purchased the home five years ago, we knew it was a “fixer-upper”.  I, for one, had no idea what that meant in terms of time and money commitment. Live and learn!

We saved for years to be able to afford the major repairs that the house needed. I’m talking about improved plumbing, the tearing down of old, cracked paneling from several walls, and even the removal of a few walls, making two tiny rooms into one good-sized family area.   

This undertaking had been very physically demanding and not so much fun in the process. Once these projects were completed I knew my reward was near. I now began the search for an interior design company in Milwaukee that would help me decorate our new living space. It really looked and felt new to us! I wanted to give it a warmer and more comfortable feel and I knew I needed an expert’s help to pull this off.   

I found a firm, called Studio G, which provides all aspects of interior design. Our agreement includes a discussion on space planning, but mostly furniture layout in each of the rooms, deciding on furnishings for the dining, family, and living rooms, and both bedding and furnishings in the bedroom. 

Our old house has hard wood flooring of course, so choosing some area rugs went a long way toward brightening up many of the rooms. Color consultation in all of the rooms and paint choices are the other activities I am still looking forward to. I spent years looking at dark paneled walls or white/eggshell paint and want to experiment with some new, hipper colors. Even the kids have ideas about what color schemes they would like to see in their own rooms. 

When all is said and done, my hope is that future guests who enter our home will not only see a space that’s perfect and functional for our family, but one that reflects our personality.
